Erasing David
It is incredible how easy it is to steal someone's identity. Erasing David really brought up some amazing problems that I never knew could actually happen, but now I see that it can easily happen to anyone, even me. I found an article from the today show about what we should be doing to protect our identity and also includes warning sign that your identity has been stolen. Unfortunately, while reading this article, I have realized that I fall short of many of the things that are listed which I should be doing to protect myself better. A statistic that surprised me in the article was that, "It’s estimated that nearly a billion records have been compromised in the last 10 years. That means everyone in this country should assume that their personal information has already been compromised,” said Robert Sicilano, identify theft expert at BestIDTheftCompanys.com." It is crazy to make yourself think that our identity has already been compromised. Another quote that I found interesting in this article was, "If you use the same email address for everything and they steal that in a breach, the first thing they do is go to your financial accounts, ask for a password reset, and bingo — they are now able to access your financial life,” Payton said. “People need to take matters into their own hands, and a separate email for financial services is a good place to start." I never knew it could be that easy to get your personal information by just getting someone's email address. This article and the film has really opened my eyes as to what to watch for in the future when it comes to my own safety. My father always says that when your driving, don't just be conscious of your own driving, but also the others that are on the road with you. That can also go for protecting yourself. Don't just go to great lengths to protect yourself, but be aware of others around you that can pick up on information that you are saying while being clueless of the people around you.
