The “Napoleon of Blackmail”

At the very beginning of the film, Erasing David, one particular line stands out:

“For each person, something is sensitive, something they don’t want the world to know about.”

This brings to mind the major story arch of the third season of the BBC series Sherlock. *note, slight spoilers ahead* During the third season, we’re introduced to a particularly interesting character, Charles Augustus Magnussen, who is thought to possess somewhere within his estate, Appledore, a database of personal information so powerful he could bring down not just all of Parliament but nearly every government around the globe.

Though there may not be a Charles Augusts Magnussen out there with a record of our most personal, private secrets, somewhere out there, that information does likely exists as the movie has made clear. And it isn’t locked up type in a mad man’s mansion, It’s accessible to nearly anyone with the skill and time to track it down. Nothing is safe, even our secrets.

  1. Great connection between Erasing David and Sherlock! I would have never thought about this if you didn't bring it up.
